6 Days old burn blister

A burn blister forms as a protective response after a second-degree burn. It happens when the skin is damaged, causing fluid to accumulate under the outer layer. Here’s what you should do if you have one:

First Aid for a Burn Blister

  1. Cool the Burn – Run cool (not cold) water over the area for 10-15 minutes or apply a cool, damp cloth. Avoid ice, as it can make the burn worse.
  2. Leave the Blister Intact – Do not pop it! The fluid inside helps protect against infection.
  3. Cover It – Use a non-stick, sterile dressing to protect the area. Avoid adhesive bandages directly on the blister.
  4. Pain Relief – Take over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen if needed.
  5. Moisturize – Once the blister starts healing, apply aloe vera or a fragrance-free moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated.
  6. Watch for Infection – If the blister bursts on its own, clean it gently with mild soap and water, apply antibiotic ointment, and cover it. Seek medical help if you notice redness, pus, or increasing pain.

When to See a Doctor 🚑

  • If the blister is large or in a sensitive area (face, hands, feet, genitals).
  • If there are signs of infection (redness, swelling, pus, fever).
  • If the burn was caused by chemicals, electricity, or hot oil.
